EMELINE’S INSPO

· COLOR · COMPOSITION · CONCEPT ·

I find inspiration throughout my everyday life. Inspiration to work on a new project, develop a new concept to explore, or practices to try to implement in my routines. When it comes to inspiration for my artwork, there are a couple of areas I tend to be drawn to: color, composition, and concept.

Color inspiration from my everyday life comes from my surroundings; my outfit of the day, different types of lighting, my meal, nature, etc. I usually take a photo with my phone of color palettes that I like, while thinking about composition so save for later.

Inspiration for different compositions comes from changing my perspective. Allowing myself to follow my curiosity throughout my day, and to look at something in a new way. Does the image I'm taking feel balanced? Why? Why not? How can I change this? What would it look like from over there? Or maybe through here?

Conceptually inspiration for a painting is sparked through observing my everyday life. What am I learning, and what can I share? What do I want to know? What have my experiences been like, and how'd they lead me to where I am now? How are they different from others who shared those experiences with me? The questions could go on.

Whenever I come across something that inspires me, I like to take notes in the form of photos or writing in my notes app on my phone. I definitely have a long list of bad ideas, but a few I think are gems from over the years. My camera roll storage is almost always full, with the most random photos of inspiration. They consist of color palettes, and different compositions or perspectives. All of these notes I accumulate will show in my artwork. Just me documenting my experience here, in an easy way, and interpreting those notes through a process I enjoy.

Below are a handful of inspiration photos i have from my camera roll, alongside artworks that are inspired by them. I share a lot of inspiration photos to my instagram as well.
