ARTIST STATEMENT & DETAILS ON MY LATEST DIGITAL ART SERIES

My latest series of work contains 12 digital pieces that are inspired by elements from my previous works, with a fresh take on color, line work and texture.

The objective of this series was to push myself outside my artistic comfort zone and create an original, cohesive digital collection, without losing touch of my signature style. What started as an exploration of color relationships quickly morphed into a curiosity that led me to push my own boundaries of color, patterns and texture.

Since I typically create mixed media paintings, tackling an entire digital collection was definitely a challenge. In the process, though, I was able to try entirely new techniques that I’m excited to use in future pieces.

A few of my favorite elements incorporated throughout the series are:

Movement: Even though these pieces are one-dimensional, I wanted to be sure they still incorporated an element of movement. By layering various textures and elements – including the outstretched hands – I was able to give each piece a bit more dimension and intrigue.

Color: The subjects in this collection are all family and friends, so as I selected the color palette for each piece, their personalities definitely played a role. Whether it was a color I knew they really liked, or colors that just reminded me of their personality – each is indicative of the person in the artwork.

Duality: You might notice a sense of duality in this collection – the different versions of the self, represented by the two portraits. I had fun toying with the interpretation of this idea. With painting, it’s easy for me to get lost in the moment and go with the flow of what I’m feeling at any given time. However, digital art is outside my typical comfort zone and requires specific techniques that can, at times, feel more rigid and precise. In this collection, I’d consider the portraits themselves structured, whereas the other elements are much more fluid. In both the literal and figurative sense, I tried to find a middle ground where both fluidity and structure could be celebrated in their own way.

My artwork has always been grounded in the intention to convey joy and lightheartedness – and this collection was no different. There’s a level of playfulness that’s visible in each piece, whether it’s through the bright color combinations or fun patterns and textures. As I continue to refine my eye for color and composition, each new collection allows me to push my style and deliver pieces that are truly unique to me. Check out my shop to view the collection as a whole.
